Who would’ve thought that increasing the size of theiPhone would amount to so much in 2014? Apple broke all of its sales records during the first few days since the launch of the iPhone 6, and these numbers also broke records in the company’s bottom line. If you’re wondering how well Apple did this holiday season, the answer is still a shocker.Flurry conducted some very interesting analytics this holiday season, and this consisted in measuring the worldwide mobile device activations during December 19 to the 25th. These are the most common dates when people could’ve opened gifts for Christmas, and where smartphones and tablets are some of the hottest options to give or receive. Using data from more than 600,000 tracked apps, Flurry was able to determine that 51.8% of mobile device activations consisted of Apple devices, which would be either iPhones or iPads. Second place on this list was Samsung, but with less than half of what Apple reached at a low 17.7%. We then have Nokia with 5.8% of activations, Sony with 1.6% and LG with 1.4%. According to Flury, phablets are the category that grew the most, even though medium phones like the iPhone 6 still dominate. Large and small tablets were apparently the most affected with all the phablet growth though.Flurry also reports that app downloads nearly doubled on Christmas day when compared to the weeks earlier, and where mobile messaging apps and games took the biggest chunk of the pie. Let’s see if Apple can retain this success going forward as we get close to competitor launches in early 2015.
