Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has had itself a very good year, and we’ve got our eyes out for what’s coming next from the manufacturer. While the flagship Mi5 has been the focus of the majority of rumors, it’s not the only new hardware we’re hearing about. We remain curious about what Xiaomi will bring to CES, but now the latest rumor is looking to what could be happening a slight bit further out, with word that Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 may be launched on January 15.From what we’ve heard, the Redmi Note 2 could strike a nice value/performance balance. It’s supposed to be a 5.5-inch 1080p device with 2GB of RAM, 16GB storage, a 3100mAh battery, a 13MP main camera, and a 5MP front-facer. SoC options would include the Snapdragon 615 or MediaTek’s MT6752. For those of you who wish phone makers would just stick with 1080p panels, rather than giving you the 2K screens you’re not asking for, the Note 2 sounds right up your alley. How much would pay for that? $300? $250? It’s not yet confirmed, but the Redmi Note 2 is expected to sell in what works out to the $145-160 range; that’s a good amount of phone hardware for a very reasonable price. Granted, we haven’t yet seen any indication that the Note 2 will be sold anywhere outside of Southeast Asia, so it may not be appropriate to directly compare this to more international budget models, but we’d absolutely love to see it give such phones some fresh competition. If these latest rumors are accurate, we could be getting full launch plans in just another couple weeks.S
