Last fall rumors started emerging of a new series of Samsung Galaxy phones, taking a a fair degree of inspiration from the Galaxy Alpha and set to arrive as the Galaxy A3, A5, and A7. Sure enough, back at the end of October we saw Samsung introduce the A3 and A5 – but not the A7. And in the months that followed, the A7 continued to remain elusive. That all changed this week, and Samsung finally made the A7 official. But now it looks like the manufacturer got one of its own details wrong, as it quietly updates its A7 materials to reflect some higher-end specs.The detail at question is the Galaxy A7’s display resolution. In its initial announcement, Samsung referred to the phone’s 5.5-inch OLED screen as having an HD resolution – so, 1280 x 720. Between then and now, the company’s gone back and changed every mention of “HD” in the A7’s launch materials to “FHD” – that’s full HD, aka 1920 x 1080.This mix-up isn’t wholly unexpected, as early A7 rumors also discussed both 720p and 1080p resolutions for the phone. At the time, we thought we might be dealing with regional variants, but given the extent to which Samsung has scrubbed its A7 pages of any mention of that 720p HD resolution, it now appears that the handset may just be a 1080p-only affair.
